SecureCRT Overview

SecureCRT is a terminal emulation and secure remote access client from VanDyke Software for Windows, macOS, and Linux. Version 9.7 combines terminal emulation with advanced session management, scripting, and SSH-based connectivity. When paired with SecureFX, it also handles secure file transfer and data tunneling.

The client targets network administrators, IT staff, and other computing professionals who need to reach UNIX, Linux, or VMS systems and network devices. It can replace Telnet or Terminal for these tasks.

Key Features

• Terminal emulation: Supports VT100/102/220, TN3270, ANSI, SCO ANSI, Wyse 50/60, Xterm, and Linux console emulations.
• Connectivity: Connects through SSH (SSH2 and SSH1), Telnet, Telnet/TLS, serial, and RDP (Windows only), along with other protocols.
• File transfer: Transfers files with SFTP, Xmodem, Ymodem, Zmodem, or Kermit. A built-in TFTP server adds further options.
• Session management: Offers control over scrollback, key mappings, colors, and fonts, with snapshots (saved workspaces), cloned sessions, and mapped keys.
• Tabbed sessions: Tabs and tab groups can be arranged vertically or horizontally, so users can compare the output of two sessions or monitor a command in one tab while working in another.
• Command Manager: A dockable panel that organizes commands into named folders, filters them by name, and launches them with a double-click or the Enter key. Commands can also be shared with the button bar.
• Keyword highlighting: Highlights words, phrases, or substrings, with regular expression support for patterns such as IP addresses. Bold, reverse video, and color attributes can be combined.
• Scripting and automation: Runs VBScript, JScript, PerlScript, Python, and ActiveX scripts. Python 3 is supported on Windows, macOS, and Ubuntu Linux. The script recorder converts keystrokes into a VBScript or Python script.
• Credentials management: Sessions can reference a shared set of credentials, which simplifies updating stored passwords across many sessions. The same credentials are used by SecureFX.
• Authentication and cryptography: Provides flexible SSH authentication options and optional FIPS 140-2-approved ciphers. X.509 smart cards (PIV/CAC) are supported for two-factor authentication, with the ability to select a specific certificate for public-key authentication.
• SecureFX integration: Shares sessions and settings with SecureFX, enabling SFTP, FTPS (FTP/TLS), HTTPS (WebDAV and Amazon S3), SCP, FTP, and HTTP transfers without re-entering passwords. Sharing settings requires the bundle installer and a bundle license.

Platforms and Availability

SecureCRT is available as a 64-bit Windows installer, as disk images for Apple Silicon and Intel Macs, and as packages for Ubuntu and Kubuntu 22.04 and 24.04 LTS. Every release can be evaluated under a 30-day evaluation license. The evaluation software is fully functional and includes documentation. Using SSH requires access to a Secure Shell server.

iOS App

SecureCRT for iOS brings SSH and Telnet access to iPhone and iPad. It supports the same emulation families as the desktop client, can import sessions from the desktop version, organizes sessions into folders, runs multiple sessions at once, and provides trace options for troubleshooting connections.
